About Us

Who are the Alameda Firefighters?

Our organization's Values constantly focus on the safety of our members and the citizens that we serve. This requires a collaborative relationship with the City to ensure adequate staffing and well-trained and equipped Department.

Our city is unique with geography. While the city is 10.8 square miles of land, it is surrounded by another 12.2 square miles of water, making Alameda 23.0 square miles with a population of about 77,000. Three Draw bridges into Oakland; one to Bay Farm Island and two one-way tunnels leading into Oakland's Chinatown provides the only vehicle access to the island.

The Alameda Fire Department currently deploys 24 of our members daily to the City's four fire stations. Working 24-hour shifts, our members staff four advanced life support (ALS) engines, two aerial ladder trucks, and three ALS ambulances. We respond to approximately six thousand calls for service each year.

Giving back to our community and those in need is very important to our Association. Through monthly union dues and fundraising efforts, the Firefighters are able to raise money and return it to over fifteen local charities in Alameda. Locally we sponsor local youth sports organizations, assist with Toys for Tots, host an annual pumpkin and turkey giveaways for Alameda residents and provide for local families in need during the Christmas holidays each year. We also forward all proceeds from our annual pancake breakfast to the Alisa Ann Ruche Burn Foundation.

Additionally, our members donate their time and money to the “Fill the Boot” for the MDA, St. Baldricks Childhood Cancer Research, the Midway Run Benefit for the Alameda Woman's and Children's Center, Alameda Meals on Wheels, Alameda Food Bank and others each year.
